Along the railway line and around the southern lakes there are areas of hedgerow and dense scrub, including brambles.
In spring, the bramble flowers attract a number of butterflies including orange tips and peacocks, whilst in summer, warblers such as blackcap, whitethroat, chiffchaff and willow warbler can be heard singing from the bushes.
In Autumn and Winter, visiting flocks of Redwing and Fieldfare arrive to feed on the berries and throughout the year the dense undergrowth is home to mammals including foxes, hedgehogs and muntjac deer.
Management
Apart from occasional thinning, scrub doesn’t require very much active management.
